An intensive media biz-tech development boot camp. The 1-week experience gives an overview of the digital media landscape; social networks, websites, email and mobile devices. It explores how to reach an audience and what it means to create content through interactive mediums that keeps an audience engaged, growing and loyal. It’s a cool mix of content creation and digital marketing.
The primary goal of the program is to provide an invaluable experience in developing and marketing “STEM Everywhere” content through utilizing technology. Participants will have an opportunity to explore an array of topics from idea and media development and production to branding, consumer insights and marketing. With leading industry professionals as mentors they create and pitch their own projects. We’re creating a unique opportunity for the exploration of the digital media landscape from creation to consumption in the age of social networking.
The camp will be held Monday, July 17th through Friday, July 21st from 9:30 am ~ 4:30 pm at YouTube Space and Google in New York.
High school level girls across disciplines interested in learning about creating, developing and distributing digital media for mobile devices. Participants form teams of 4 around the best ideas and collaborate with mentors through brainstorming, research, execution and presentation.
Teams are formed based on diverse interests and skill level after application evaluation. Each team member should bring different skills to the table such as marketing, production, visual design, advertising, business, art, project management, etc. *NOTE: If this is the summer after your senior year of high school, you are welcome to apply.
No. Applicants are welcome and encouraged to present a content idea around the theme “STEM Everywhere” content. However, it is not a requirement. Participants can present their ideas to the group and come to a consensus.
It’s up to your interpretation. It’s about finding aspects of STEM in unconventional and/orunexpected places and capturing that. However, the content must convey a clear correlation to some aspect of Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Math. The mission is to be creative and think far outside-of-the-box.
No prior knowledge or experience is required. If you are willing to learn and full of ideas there are people eager to teach you what you need to know and put your creativity in motion.
Application for the 1-week Girl Power Biz-Camp experience is open to high school level girls. The camp is from Monday, July 17th through Friday, July 21st. To apply simply fill out the form and include a link to video (1 minute or less) stating “Why attending the Girl Power Biz Camp is important to you?” Also, if you have an idea for “STEM Everywhere” content to share.
The camp is 100% free! All we ask for your enthusiasm, honest efforts, collaborative spirit and positive attitude. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
We will invite 30 high school level girls. We will also have a waiting list in the event an applicant we’ve invited is unable to participate.
A committee of professionals will invite applicants based on aspects like; skill, interest and the answer to the application question provided in your 1 minute or less video, “Why attending the Girl Power Biz Camp is important to you.”
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide transportation and lodging. Participants must be local and be able to provide their own transportation to and from the camp. The camp is from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Yes, we call this our reserve list and the applicants on this list will be notified of any changes immediately. If an applicant does not show the day of the event, the next available applicant on our reserve list will be able to participate in their place. Thus reserve applicants must be prepared to participate upon short notice and even arrive at the location the day of. Those who are on the reserve list will be notified of their status prior.
Please bring a laptop, power supply, and above all else your energy, collaborative spirit and brainpower. If you don’t have a laptop computer, a loaner can be provided.
During the camp teams create mock concepts using on-line resources, graphics, photos, videos and other resources. At the end of the camp teams will be expected to showcase their concepts and pitch their product strategies.
There will also prizes presented to the pitch concepts and pitches with the highest scores at the end of the camp. All participants will receive swag and other cool stuff.
A panel of judges will evaluate the finished content based on the following criteria: concept, strategy, ingenuity, market viability and adherence camp’s theme of “STEM Everywhere”content.
Judges are industry leaders and top executives across industries.
